The second image is for the Shinnery Review's ARTiculation contest. Since Kalyn and I are co-editors this year--and since we cooked up the contest--we figured we should enter. The rules are that the finished work has to combine art and poetry (or literature of another kind) in a visual way. The artist can accomplish this by any means they choose. We decided to work together to illustrate a poem Kalyn wrote. I took and edited the pictures and made the mock up to Kalyn's specifications. Kalyn was the model and will mat the finished prints into the layout shown here. Again, let me know what you think.

I have a suggestion for the bride picture. The softnes is beautiful and bronze tone is really nice..but I don't think it's too dark, I just think the light is in the wrong place. You don't want the light to emphasise her chest, but rather the beauty in her face... esp on a "blessed" woman. She sure does have a big shiny tiara though! haha!
I like the light where it is. It spreads lightly to her face now. If I were the bride I would be pleased with this pose.
The art project is great. Is the leg and foot under the poem yours?
I think the Shinnery project would be neat if you had one picture of legs that fit the description in the poem, instead of just young beautiful legs. But maybe I'm just not artsy enough to "get it," and with further explantion I would be able to fully appreciate it.
All the legs in the Shinnery project are Kalyn's...she's just wearing my shoes.
We did talk about having a shot in the composition of an older, vericose-veined leg, but what women wants to be a foot model because her body looks old and gnarly? Find her and I'll take her picture.
As it is, we tried to hit more on the youthful, pre-war, dancing legs also described in the poem and Kalyn's husband is quite happy with the result. He intends on hanging the piece in his office (when he gets paid enough to have one).

Tonight I told Josh (he's playing warcraft, so I can tell him we're doing things and get no arguement - this is handy...perhaps the ONLY thing warcraft is handy for) "Emerald needs to take pictures of couples and we're going to help her sometime." Josh's immediate response: "Naked?" I told him, I didn't think you ...or the rest of the world... needed to see that side of him. I can see what Laci is saying about the portrait, it probably would help. However, it is a good portrait as it is. You might keep her advice in mind for the next time you are in a situation like that though. The window lighting is beatiful here (it IS window light right? If you are wanting to bring up some of the shadow detail on the right hand side and you have photoshop CS2 there is an option to modify the shadows and highlight seperately, so you could bring up the shadow detail without hurting the great tones on the left side. The photo looks good as is though, in my opinion. The Shinnery project is great, I can see how the toning of the image gives it a sense of being an old photograph or a memory of her once young and beautiful "dancing" legs. I really enjoy seeing your work Emerald, photographers like yourself and Laci inspire me with creative portraits.
I just looked at your wedding photos. So pretty! And so many! I didn't know what I was getting into when I started looking :) I can't wait to see your album when you finish it.
